Training is due to start for a team of chefs from Wales to compete in the IKA/Culinary Olympics 2008 in Germany, it has been reported.
Described as the biggest event of its kind in the world by organisers, the four-day contest will gather catering professionals from all over the globe to display their talents, with 2,000 chefs and pastry chefs due to participate.
According to Big Hospitality, the Welsh side plans to travel to the Waterside Hotel in Ambleside in the Lake District to get prepared for the task ahead.
The source said the Craft Guild of Chefs also intends to send a team from the UK.
Captain of the Welsh team and executive chef of English Lakes Hotels, Lee Jeynes, told the publication: "We all take it very seriously so this practice session will be invaluable preparation for the big event in Germany."
Some of the categories include awards for Culinary Art, Patisserie and Restaurant of Nations, according to the contest's official website.
