Planning approved for airport expansion

Durham Tees Valley Airport has received planning permission for its continued expansion, it has been reported.

Following a £56 million redevelopment of the airport's terminal and the replacement of airfield lighting, the Teesside international transport hub's owners have been given the go ahead to develop a business park, hotel, pub and restaurant, according to the Northern Echo.

The news provider states: "First-class air transport links are an essential factor for successful inward investment."

Adding: "A thriving Durham Tees Valley Airport would be a major lure for new investors, with the prosperity they could bring to our region."

The news may be of interest to people looking for hospitality and catering jobs in the region.

According to the former manager of Durham Tees Valley Airport Hugh Lang, the site is expected to expand and be bigger than Newcastle International Airport by 2015.

In related news, a deal earlier this month between Thomas Cook and NIA is expected to create around 100 jobs in the region.
