Peyton and Byrne has added the British Library to its portfolio of customers and will be taking over the building's restaurants and cafes, as well as providing contract catering for conferences and banquets.

It will be in charge of the upper ground floor cafe, first floor restaurant and terrace, a grab and go outlet on the piazza and a takeout coffee bar.

The firm will take over the public catering from April 1st and over the coming months will make several changes to the library's existing outlets, including a redesign by design firm Andrew Martin Associates of the lower ground floor cafe.

Chairman Oliver Peyton said: "The sheer scale of the British Library is impressive and the catering operations are equally complex - from grab and go coffee shops to restaurants and staff catering. It's a real opportunity and we're up for it."

Peyton and Byrne also provides catering at the National Dining Rooms in the National Gallery, the Wallace Collection and Fulham Palace.
