Compass inks Welsh Rugby Union catering deal

Compass Group has inked a new 15-year deal with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) Group worth around £100 million, which could see more contract catering jobs being created.

In a renegotiation of its original contract, which was signed in 1999 when the Millennium Stadium opened, Compass has secured a five-year extension taking its partnership with the union to 2024.

Compass said it intends to use the deal as a springboard towards increasing the volume of major sports, cultural and leisure events as well as conferences and other non-event-day business on the stadium calendar.

Steve Phillips, group finance director of WRU Group, said: "The new deal will provide Millennium Stadium plc with improved profitability per event and will align the stadium with comparable stadia in commercial terms."

Compass recently announced it would be using only beef from British farmers in all of its food products from October in an effort to improve sustainability.
