People looking for chef and catering jobs in the UK take pride in their food, regardless of the level they are working at, according to one newspaper.

The Guardian's Jason Sheehan stated that people working in budget eateries take as much pride in their work as people plying their trade in high-end expensive restaurants.

"There is an all too common belief that dignity in cooking comes from a starched white jacket, perfect teeth, a publicist and a TV contract," he said.

Mr Sheehan added that nowadays, no one is a cook anymore and everyone wants to be a chef. He believes culinary pride is measured in Michelin stars by too many people, as are magazine centrefolds and the number of local farms name-checked on the menu.

In other news, the Mirror recently reported that after a successful Christmas period Greggs have decided to expand its operations in the UK and predicted the number of its shops will rocket to more than 2,000 within six to seven years.
