Thousands of Olympic jobs have been created over the past year, with people receiving training so they are well equipped to deal with every eventuality at the Games, according to one expert.

Olympic Delivery Authority chairman John Armitt said that fair progress has been made with the creation of new roles for the Games and he believes the workforce will continue to grow.

He said: "The 'Big Build' workforce is continuing to grow as we enter our toughest year. The project remains on track and that is testament to the skill, professionalism and hard work of every single member of the workforce."

British officials also revealed that the Olympic project will probably come in around £500 million under budget.

In other Olympics news, a new security system called Airwave has cost the Home Office around £39 million and will be used by the police and other emergency services at the Games.
