Catering supplies firm creates 50 jobs

A firm that supplies food to those in contract catering jobs has created 50 positions at its depot near Grantham.

Brakes, which delivers supplies to pubs and restaurants as well as caterers, is building a new 5,200 sq m warehouse at Gonerby Moor, the Grantham Journal reports.

The company currently employs 500 staff at the Grantham site, the extension of which is set to be completed by late summer.

James Armitage, marketing director at Brakes, said: "This is a major expansion designed to create a single multi-temperature facility that will enhance our current site and represents a significant investment both in terms of jobs and infrastructure."

He said that it will allow the firm to distribute high-quality fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced produce to its customers more efficiently.

Scotland's largest hospitality show, ScotHot 2011, is to be used as a platform to urge those in catering jobs to use local produce.
