Hotel managers in the UK reported growth in occupancy and room rates in April from the year before, recent figures have shown, which may interest people pursuing a career in the hospitality sector.
Pannel Kerr Forster, a leading accountancy and business advisory firm, released the figures to Caterer and Hotelkeeper, which described them as "robust levels of year-on-year growth."
Revenue per available room rose by an average 14.6 per cent compared with the same period last year, with the most significant increase observed in Leeds, at 28.4 per cent.
London hotels saw a jump in room rates by ten per cent from the year before and occupancy increased by 4.1 per cent, according to the publication.
This news comes at a time when generally people have been spending less on luxuries such as leisure and eating out as a result of the credit crunch, reported by the Daily Mail, based on figures from the Confederation of British Industry.
However, the newspaper noted that the travel industry is "one of the few to benefit, as families seem determined to reward their self-denial with a holiday".
