Local jobs may be in the offing, with talks surrounding a possible new hotel for the building above Leeds Railway Station ongoing, it has been reported.

According to Big Hospitality, Network Rail is selling off the seven-storey facility, advertising it as an opportunity for hotel developers.

Property agents Fleurets have been enlisted to find a buyer for the building, with principal salesman Paul Harwick telling the website: "Both the location and nature of [it] lends itself ideally to a hotel development and offers are invited for a new lease."

He added Network Rail may also be willing to invest in a prospective development of the 3,485 sq m space, depending on the conditions of an agreement.

In other news, the Yorkshire Post reported at the beginning of September that the service industries have played a role in bolstering the city's success amid the credit crunch.

Catering and hotel jobs make up some of the sector comprising a quarter of the city's employment figures, the newspaper said.
