A £4 million plan to convert an Exeter hospital into a hospital is expected to get the green light from city planners.

It is thought that construction on the project could star as early as January, reports thisisexeter.co.uk.

Devon Lifestyles Ltd is planning to convert listed Dean Clarke House, in Southernhay, into a high-quality hotel with 49 bedrooms, a swimming pool, health centre, a restaurant, wine bar and offices.

Councilors are meeting on Monday and are expected to give the multi-million pound venture the go-ahead, which could be good news for hospitality jobs in the area.

Derek Phillips, chairman of Exeter Chamber of Commerce, said the development may pave the way for further hotels in the future.

"Even in this economic climate it is nearly impossible to get a room in Exeter from Monday to Friday," he said.

"The hotel will not only bring construction jobs to Exeter, but hotel jobs as well."
