Blackpool to get hotel jobs

Blackpool is set to get 45 new hotel jobs as part of £18 million investment by Travelodge in the area.

As part of the new package, Blackpool Tower Travelodge in the former Clifton Hotel in Talbot Square and Blackpool Pleasure Beach Travelodge will both open their doors on December 22nd.

The Blackpool Tower establishment will create 25 new staff jobs, while the Pleasure Beach hotel will necessitate another 20, reports the Blackpool Gazette.

Commenting on the development, Paul Harvey, managing director for development at Travelodge, said: "The credit crunch is forcing people to review their spending habits and we are seeing more customers shift to budget hotel accommodation.

"We continue to actively seek and pursue new development and growth opportunities as we are looking to open a further 4,000 new rooms in 2009."

Travelodge is aiming to increase its estate to approximately 70,000 rooms in some 1,000 hotels in the UK by 2020.
