Plans to a build major tourist attraction on a former Ministry of Defence site in Hampshire have not been abandoned, despite developers pulling out.

Verve quit the scheme at Priddy's Hard in Gosport due to concerns about the housing market, reports the Daily Echo.

However, councillors have pledged that the plans are not dead, even though the scheme will be unavoidably delayed.

As well as 79 new residential properties, the £4.3 million project would incorporate a new hotel, waterfront bar and restaurant, which may be of interest to those considering local jobs.

Councillor Peter Chegwyn, deputy leader of Gosport Council and chairman of the council's Economic Development Board, said: "Gosport Council will look again at the site and talk with other potential developers as we feel there is still real potential for a regeneration project here that improves Gosport's waterfront and creates new jobs and homes for people who base their businesses here."

Elsewhere, Stuart McBride, chief executive of Blue Arrow, recently noted that catering professionals are still highly sought-after.
