Some top names from the world of sport have lent their support to a new 158-bed four star hotel at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane stadium.

The Copthorne Hotel and the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity is being backed by former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan, athlete Jessica Ennis, tennis player Roger Taylor, ice hockey player Ron Shudra and Blades team manager Kevin Blackwell – all of whom attended the ceremony to celebrate its opening.

After opening for two trial days over the Christmas period, the establishment will begin operating officially in January, which may interest those looking for hospitality jobs.

Sheffield United Chief Executive Jason Rockett said: "The hotel is a further example of how the club continues to look ahead to improve its Bramall Lane ground and facilities and in so doing contribute to the development of the business and the playing side of the club."

In related news, the South Yorkshire Star recently reported that plans for a £20 million hotel and office development in Chesterfield have been put forward to the local council.
