Hartlepool could be set to receive a 'floating hotel' if a new application is given the go-ahead.
Premier Inn has proposed plans for a 54-bedroom extension on its site at the Hartlepool Marina, reports the Hartlepool Mail.
According to bosses, the new establishment will bring additional business and leisure visitors to the town ahead of the Tall Ships' Races in 2010.
Furthermore, it will create about 25 new jobs at the hotel and restaurant facilities, which could be welcome news for those considering hospitality recruitment in the region.
Mark Anderson, property director for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, which is Premier Inn's parent company, said: "Our existing hotel at the marina is a very popular location and our proposal to develop a floating extension will build on the success of the site."
If greenlit, work will start next spring and the hotel will be ready for occupation by early 2010.
Elsewhere, Premier Inn is preparing to open what it claims is the greenest hotel in Staffordshire.
