New development to boost Egham jobs

Plans for a £35 million supermarket and hotel project could boost jobs in Egham if given the go-ahead.
The application which includes a 20,000 sq ft food Waitrose store and an 80-room Travelodge would bring more than 200 jobs to the town, reports the Staines Guardian.
If the plans are approved, work on the project would begin this year to be completed by 2011, which may be of note to those considering hospitality recruitment in the region.
Geoff Egan, managing partner of Albemarle Egham, said the development would bring "significant and wide reaching economic benefits" to the town.
"The proposed development will bring with it more than 200 new jobs, provide new facilities to ensure that shoppers spend more time in Egham and create much needed extra town centre hotel bed space, encouraging visitors to extend their stay with the inevitable financial benefits," he added.
Elsewhere, a recent study by City and Guilds indicated that the hospitality industry is the second most common career choice recommended to young people.
