A hotel expansion in Midlothian is in the pipeline, which could create 50 new hospitality jobs.
Melville Castle Hotel has been taken over by entrepreneur Steven McLeod, who plans to transform it into a five-star spa and events facility, reports the Scotsman.
The hotel is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment and will reopen in March, however Mr McLeod has even bigger plans for the future and hopes to add a further 120 bedrooms to the establishment.
He is also planning to include a steakhouse and fine-dining eatery in the hotel, creating further restaurant jobs.
"We are facing difficult economic times but it is at times like these we have to stick together," Mr McLeod told the publication.
It is hoped plans for the new venue will be submitted within the next 18 months.
Proposals for a luxury hotel and golf course development in the south-west of Scotland have been recommended for approval.
They include proposals for a 200-bed hotel, a conference centre and a championship golf course at Hoddom Castle near Dumfries.
