A new hotel is to be built at Chester Zoo as part of a £225 million plan to transform the attraction.

Currently under the working title of Natural Vision, the project will see the zoo become the largest conservation, animal and leisure attraction in Europe.

The first phase of the development will include an African rainforest-themed ecosystem which will house gorillas, chimpanzees, reptiles and an array of tropical birds.

Furthermore, the initial phase will include the building of 90-bed hotel, potentially creating hospitality jobs in the region.

James Berresford, director of tourism at the Northwest Regional Development Agency, said: "Chester Zoo is already a highly successful regional attraction and the ambitious Natural Vision project will transform it into a visitor experience of national and international importance."

In related news, it was recently reported that holiday group Butlins is set to open a 200-room luxury hotel in the seaside town of Bognor Regis, creating local jobs for 2009.
