Green makeover planned for Highland hotel

A Highland hotel is undergoing a green renovation in a bid to make it more attractive to tourists.

The Glenuig Inn, which is located on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula in Lochaber, is to benefit from insulation and solar panels as part of the makeover, which is being assisted with £182,340 from the Highlands and Island Enterprise (HIE).

If green tourism proves popular, the move could see hotel jobs created in the region.

HIE area manager for Lochaber Robert Muir comments: "The growing awareness of green tourism among Highland businesses is rising and one of our priorities is to meet the high standards expected from business and leisure travellers seeking a green tourism experience."

Glenuig Inn is the only hotel within a ten mile radius and the main inn building dates from the 17th Century.

An eco-hotel in Norfolk, Strattons Hotel in Swaffham, recently achieved first place in the Resource Conservation category of The City of London Corporation's Sustainable City Awards.

Last week it was awarded an HRS Hotel Excellence accolade for its efforts to cut down on its water usage.
