Plans for the UK's first floating hotel have been approved by planning chiefs.
Hotel operator Premier Inn will start work in the £3 million extension to its Hartlepool site in the coming months.
The development will boast 54 bedrooms and create between 20 and 30 hospitality jobs when open, reports the Hartlepool Mail.
Christine Roberts, for the applicants Whitbread, told Hartlepool Borough Council's planning committee: "It is unique and we are very pleased Whitbread have decided to build its first UK floating hotel in the town.
"We have worked with the council since 2007 and believe what has been produced is a really good scheme with an impressive and innovative design."
Councillors welcomed the move, saying it will bring much-needed accommodation to the area.
The Bristol Evening Post recently reported that a new Premier Inn is to open in the city, bring the region's total to 11.
Some 60 hotel jobs will be created by the development.
