Sales role for those working in hotels

Staff working in hotels need to be salespeople to try and generate as much income and revenue as possible, it has been claimed.
According to Stephen Broome, hospitality and leisure director at leading professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, the fixed cost base for hotels is traditionally high.
In order to maximise profits, he says hotel managers need to ensure all members of their teams are making the most of every commercial opportunity when it comes to persuading guests to part with their money.
Mr Broome claims that with the economic downturn pressuring many firms, it time to adopt a "back to basics" approach.
TRI Hospitality Consulting reports that daily hotel profit in London fell almost 16 per cent to £45.62 per available room during the first quarter of the year.
The average room rate fell 5.5 per cent and occupancy was down 3.7 percentage points at 72.9 per cent.
Elsewhere in the UK, daily profit fell by almost 20 per cent to £21.22 per available room, while the average room rate dropped 5.6 per cent and occupancy 3.8 percentage points to 61.4 per cent.
