A new hotel could be built on the former site of a former opencast mine in south Derbyshire, it has been reported.
The Burton Mail says Swadlincote could be transformed into a multi-million pound golf, leisure and accommodation complex, a move which local officials believe could attract new business to the area.
South Derbyshire MP Mark Todd commented: "What is likely to happen is that other businesses are likely to set up near that site and it could be a base for major investors and other leisure uses."
The hotel planned as an 82-bedroom facility is set to be the centrepiece of the development, the newspaper reports.
South Derbyshire District Council leader Heather Wheeler said: "The plans that have come into the council are very innovative."
However, he noted that the project would need to go through the complete planning process before being given the green light.
Last month, the Derby Telegraph reported that the new £20 million Jurys Inn hotel in Derby had created 80 hotel jobs in the East Midlands.
