Recruiters urged to maximise efforts

Recruitment agencies should be maximising efforts to meet the needs of both clients and jobseekers as the recession ensues, it has been claimed.

According to Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), those working in hospitality recruitment and other areas have "the momentous challenge" of helping jobseekers back into work, while meeting the demands of clients.

The latter group now has increased expectations of agency staff quality due to the wider talent pool available during the recession, he claimed, meaning there is no room for complacency.

Mr Green added that recruiters have two options at present – to become defeatist about the slow employment market or use the challenging climate as an opportunity to develop their professional skills and capability.

"It's encouraging to see the majority taking the latter approach," he stated.

Last week, a spokesperson for Travelodge claimed that demand continues to exist in the budget accommodation sector as the recession ensues.

Business Travel Market founder Paul Robin said the same was true in the upmarket industry as well – potentially boosting professionals seeking hotel jobs.
