A new 18-bedroom boutique hotel has opened on the site of the Seaton Lane Inn in Sunderland, boosting hospitality jobs prospects in the area.
The hotel was opened by Sunderland AFC chairman Niall Quinn who is a personal friend of pub manager Adrian Marshall and his wife Dee.
He said he believes the new venture will improve Sunderland's chances of hosting a game during the 2018 World Cup, which in turn could bring more local jobs to the area.
"More and more places like this will pop up and hopefully we will get the bid," he told the Sunderland Echo.
"It serves fabulous food, it's great fun and it's full of local characters," he added. "For me, I think that's important."
A new Premier Inn hotel recently opened in the Northern Ireland city of Lisburn creating 50 full and part-time hospitality jobs.
The establishment was the first hotel to be opened since the area was granted city status.
