London hotels 'enjoy strong September'

London hoteliers enjoyed a successful September as they managed to increase both profitability and total revenue per available room, according to a new study.

Research by Tri Hospitality Consulting revealed that during September, profits increased by 43 per cent when compared to August.

The study also found that occupancy rates hit 83.4 per cent, a 1.3 per cent increase on the same time last year.

Jonathon Langston, managing director of Tri Hospitality, believes that business travellers are starting to return to London as the impact of the recession starts to subside.

He said: "The strong volume achieved in the capital, continuing cost control and softer comparables in 2008 have combined to stem declines in profitability."

These latest figures should provide further good news for people looking for hotel jobs after Deloitte called London's occupancy rates during the recession "impressive".

According to the firm, the capital has proved to be one of the most resilient cities in the world.
