London hotel jobs decision due from Boris Johnson

Hotel jobs could be created in London if the city's mayor, Boris Johnson, decides to approve plans for a major development in Southall.

The mayor will consider the proposals following an initial rejection of the developers' planning application by the London boroughs of Ealing and Hillingdon.

The development would include up to 3,750 new homes, a hotel, around 20,000 square metres of retail space and restaurants, bars, cafes, a cinema and sports facilities.

Since the proposals have implications for the capital as a whole, the mayor's new powers allow him to take complete control over the planning application from the local boroughs.

Mr Johnson said: "This proposal clearly meets the test of a planning application of major significance to London with the homes it will deliver and the jobs it will create."

The first such plan that the mayor took over was the Columbus Tower development in Canary Wharf.
