Hotel jobs in Liverpool could be boosted as plans have been submitted to build a hotel on a neglected car park, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool's Strand could see a ten-storey building replace the dilapidated site on the waterfront if the proposals go ahead.
Budget hotel chain Travelodge wants to redevelop the land next to the site of the former Coopers Emporium into a 141-bedroom hotel in a project which it says would add £1.5 million to the local economy each year and create 38 hotel jobs in Liverpool.
City centre councillor Nick Small told the news provider: "It is a key site and it is probably best if we want to get new hotels in the city that we keep them away from where residents are living."
"It will bring people into Liverpool One and I do not see any problem with it," he added.
This year Travelodge plans to create more than 500 hotel jobs in the UK with 26 new openings costing £115 million.
