A £200 million scheme to revamp York's former Terry's site is set to be given the green light next week after city planners approved modified plans.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Post, the site will create 3,000 jobs if the plan goes ahead, including a number of hospitality positions at a proposed four-star hotel and business hotel.

The plans also include a children's nursery, a care home, a medical centre and a convenience store.

Speaking to the news provider, York Council leader Andrew Waller said that a decision to take the project forward would signal that York is "open for business".

He added: "There is demand in the city for medium-sized businesses wanting slightly larger premises. It would satisfy the demand there as well as providing a significant amount of affordable housing."

Last week, it was reported that a North Yorkshire hotel was named the best in the UK at Tripadvisor's annual awards.

Rudding Park near Harrogate was praised for the "faultless service" provided by its hospitality staff.
