Hotels in the capital saw strong growth in December 2009, according to the latest HotStats survey from TRI Hospitality Consulting.
Gross operating profit per available room grew by almost 23 per cent over the course of the month, providing a much-needed boost to people in hotel jobs.
Revenue per available room (RevPAR) was also up in December, rising by 10.1 per cent, while occupancy levels rose 5.9 percentage points to 77.3 per cent and average room rates rose by 1.7 per cent to £112.41.
The strong festive season helped lower the total RevPAR decline seen in 2009 to 6.4 per cent.
"The strength of the last few months means that in the year as a whole, London hotels suffered a profit fall of just 7.8 per cent. And this was during what is widely seen as the worst recession since the 1930s," said Jonathan Langston, managing director, TRI Hospitality Consulting.
He added that anticipated revenue growth in 2010 "bodes well" for the capital's hotels.
Earlier this week, data from PKF Hotel Consultancy Services also highlighted that London's hotels had a strong December in 2009, showing that year-on-year occupancy rates increased by 5.3 per cent to hit 76.7 per cent over the Christmas and New Year period.
