Cardiff City has been given the green light to sell £2 million worth of land which could lead to the creation of hotel jobs in Wales, reports WalesOnline.

The land is earmarked for a hotel development and coach park, although the latter could well become offices and warehouses.

It was approved by the city council's executive board in a meeting after a two-and-a-half-hour delay as officials were busy consulting the documents.

The club is selling the land for funds to clear around £10 million worth of debts to creditors and the taxman. It will be able to defer paying 40 per cent of the cost of the sale owed to the council for five years after which point it will accumulate interest.

It sold the club to shareholder Paul Guy's company Capital Retail Partnership for £1.8 million.

Coventry's Ricoh Arena recently announced proposals to increase its capacity by 10,000 through a £3 million upgrade.
