A new hotel in Twickenham is set to bolster south-west London hotel jobs when it is developed in the centre of the area.

Travelodge is behind the development, which will transform an office block that has been described as "the ugliest building in Twickenham", according to the Hounslow Chronicle.

Managing director for development for the hotel chain Paul Harvey told the newspaper: "We are extremely pleased to have secured planning permission at such a key site in Twickenham. There is currently no hotel accommodation of any kind in the town centre and we believe the Travelodge will be a great addition to the town."

He added that the facility will provide affordable accommodation for the large number of visitors that the area gets.

Hotel jobs have been given a boost by the news that Travelodge is going to expand its current UK-based business and invest in ten more sites around the country, including an establishment close to the Olympic village in east London.
