A Belfast-born hotelier has predicted that many more Northern Ireland hotel jobs will be created in the coming months as tourism in the country picks up.

According to John Fitzpatrick, who moved from Belfast to New York in 1991 to open the first ever Irish-owned hotel in the Big Apple, the Titanic centenary and European Music Awards next year will lead to a spike in demand for accommodation.

This, in turn, could lead to the creation of more hotel jobs in Belfast as the city's hoteliers look to cope with the increased pressure on the hospitality industry, he told the Belfast Telegraph.

He elaborated: "Coach tours, which in the past might have come up from Dublin to spend the day in Belfast, are now thinking there'll [be] more to see and do next year so they're booking to stay a night or even two."

Last month, a number of new restaurant jobs were created in Belfast with the opening of an unusual eatery - the Galley restaurant, which is located in a 60-year-old barge on the city's Lagan river.
