Hotel jobs on the Isle of Man could be given a boost if proposals to build a new hotel in Douglas are given the green light by council officials.

The project, which could begin in the near future, would see the 120-room establishment constructed on the old bus station site in Douglas, reports the Isle of Man news.

It would include the £70 million redevelopment of the location, including a four or five-star hotel, as well as 60 associated flats plus 24 retail and leisure units.

Additionally, the site - which is set to be developed by Askett Hawk as part of a 2008 deal - will feature a 150-space car park.

Minister for infrastructure David Cretney told the House of Keys his department was working to conclude the development agreement with the firm.

This comes after a project to create a new hotel and village hall event space was launched at Newbury Racecourse as part of redevelopment plans approved earlier this week.
