A new hotel planned for Carmarthenshire could give hospitality recruitment in the region a boost by attracting Chinese tourists to Llanelli.

The Pantglas Hall development will involve a 100-bedroom hotel and an 80-house residential development and provide up to 70 full-time hotel jobs for the area, reports the Daily Mail.

It could attract 20,000 Chinese tourists annually, according to director Tommy Li.

Construction firm Maxhard, which has offices in Beijing and London, is behind the project and describes it as a "luxurious development for a select international clientele looking to enjoy a tranquil Welsh retreat."

The development is also expected to include a swimming pool, spa and restaurant.

Architect Lamidi Evbuomwan said the holiday village had involved a £500,000 investment so far and will help regenerate the site and the region.

A decision on planning permission is expected in the new year.  The South Wales Evening Post reported earlier in the month that developers had clashed with locals over the proposal, which they feel would not have sufficient benefits for the area and increase traffic to an unacceptable level.
