Luxury Southampton development a step closer

A £25 million Southampton hotel which could boost hospitality recruitment and attract a Michelin-star winning chef to the area has moved closer to becoming a reality.
Plans for the development have been submitted to the local council, which will make a decision in the new year.
It could generate 100 hotel jobs and slot into the ongoing Ocean Village project, reports the Southern Daily Echo.
The hotel was first mooted in 2006 but plans have changed a number of times since then. The £70 million Ocean Village Marina redevelopment has involved numerous ventures, such as restaurants and two cinemas.
Plans for the boutique hotel include 76 bedrooms, a spa and a champagne roof terrace.
Eamonn Feeney, managing director of MDL Marinas Group, said: "Ultimately we see Ocean Village, with its high quality marina, becoming the new waterfront destination for Southampton, to rival Gunwharf Quays [in Portsmouth]"
