Plans for Bath hotel approved

A £10 million Premier Inn hotel in Bath could generate hotel jobs for the region and increase tourist trade to the town, after a government-appointed planning inspector gave plans the go-ahead.
Furthermore, the inspector has ordered the local council to pay the company's costs in putting the proposal together after deeming its objections to the scheme unreasonable, reports the Bath Chronicle.
The hotel will have 107 rooms and join several other budget establishments planned for the city over the next few years, despite objections from small hotel owners and members of the council.
Planning inspector Christopher Millns rejected the council's arguments that the new hotel could cause disruption to local residents and increase traffic.
He said he was satisfied the parking arrangement for the Premier Inn would not have an impact on nearby roads and claimed councillors had not provided "realistic and specific evidence".
Premier Inn is owned by Whitbread, which recently announced total sales growth off 11.4 per cent over the 13 weeks to December 2011.
