Hospitality recruitment in the Welsh town of Barry could be given a boost by the news that Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants plans to open a Premier Inn hotel and Brewers Fayre eatery in the area.

The 80-room establishment is expected to generate 50 jobs in the town, reports the Barry and District News.

Building work on the project will get underway soon. High Street Traders Association chairman Anthony Hopkins said he hoped it would encourage investment in the town and bring visitors into the shopping district.

"It's nice seeing investment coming into Barry, especially in this economic climate," added Mr Hopkins.

The project could be finished and open to guests for October 2012, according to the project manager.

Jim Francis explained the company was keen to get the development underway, stressing the potential benefits it would have for the town.

Whitbread is one of the UK's biggest hospitality investors and employers and responsible for well-known brands such as Costa Coffee and Beefeater Grill.
