Hospitality recruitment in Scotland has been given a boost with the news that lifestyle hotel company Malmaison plans to open a new 91-bed establishment in Dundee.

The new outlet will be opened on the site of the old Tay Hotel and is expected to create around 120 jobs, with development starting in the spring of 2012 and forecast to finish by May 2013.

Malmaison has taken a 35-year lease out on the property, with the option of extending this for another 35 years in the future.

Chief executive Gary Davis said he is delighted to have secured such a prestigious site for the company as the regeneration of the Dundee waterfront gets underway in earnest.

"My objective is to oversee an expansion of the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin business and I expect that this new hotel will be the first of many for these fantastic brands," added Mr Davis.

Dundee's waterfront development is also likely to include a Holiday Inn Express, with a number of plots set aside for further leisure investment.
