Hotels enjoy positive growth in 2011

People in hotel management jobs across the UK enjoyed a fairly positive year in 2011 despite the economic slump and falling consumer confidence in other sectors.
Hospitality research experts STR Global found revenue-per-available-room (RevPAR) growth in 2011, indicating a successful year of trading.
However, events such as the royal wedding had little impact on hotel performance, something which could concern hoteliers banking on a boost in business levels over the course of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
"Overall 2011 has been a good year for UK hoteliers thanks to positive demand growth," said Elizabeth Randall, managing director at STR Global.
RevPAR grew by 8.4 per cent in London over the course of the year and by 1.5 per cent across the regions.
Despite this, STR Global forecast a slight fall in growth over 2012 as the hospitality sector struggles to cope with the ongoing economic uncertainty in Britain.
The latest survey from TRI Hospitality Consulting found profit went up by 4.7 per cent in London hotels last year.
