Hospitality recruitment can offer a boost to the UK economy by generating 236,000 jobs in the next three years as long as the government offers support to the industry's development, the British Hospitality Association (BHA) has claimed.
Its Hospitality Economy Proposition report emphasised the importance of the restaurant, hotel and catering sector in creating employment in Britain and the need for the government to engage with the possibilities it offers.
This came in conjunction with a report carried out by Oxford Economics stressing the size and scale of the hospitality industry and an STR Global reports showing an increase in revenue for many hoteliers in 2011.
Michael Shepherd, of the London Hilton on Park Lane, said the studies are timely warnings of the need for governmental support in a tough global market.
"If we can work together to make our industry more competitive, hospitality in the UK will be able to capture a growing share of the unprecedented expansion of global travel," he added.
