Hilton to offer chef apprenticeships

Hilton Worldwide plans to offer 50 young people chef jobs at its apprenticeship academy in the coming months through plans to enhance its recruitment operation in the UK.

The programme has already offered around 60 apprenticeships to young people working in the hospitality industry since it launched the scheme in 2010.

Projects like this have been mooted as a way to boost the faltering British economy, with managing director of notgoingtouni.co.uk Spencer Mehlman claiming a sustained programme of support for the apprenticeship system would be a positive move from the coalition government.

Minister for employment Christ Grayling expressed his pleasure at Hilton Worldwide's plan to increase recruitment in the UK.

"I look forward to the day when these apprentices run their own Michelin-starred restaurants," he said.

The minister added that dealing with youth unemployment is a priority for the government and working with major companies like this will help them achieve their aims.
