Orchid Group has revealed it is to send staff from its head office out to its pubs across the country in a bid to get all its properties ready for summer trading.

The Publican reports that workers from the chain's St Albans base will be deployed to its 290 venues to help clean, decorate and tidy up gardens, as well as ensure that all summer furniture is ready to be used by customers during the traditionally busy period.

Those in pub manager roles could find themselves supervising some of the most senior figures at the firm, including group chief executive Rufus Hall.

Jerry Robinson, the operations director for Orchid Group, said: "There are always a host of labour-intensive tasks that have to happen to get the season off to a crisp, fresh start and we really wanted to help our colleagues this year by being an extra pair of hands on call to help with whatever they need doing.

"We're expecting it to be hard work … but lots of fun too."

The firm, which says it is the fifth largest managed pub retailer in the UK, is reportedly planning to invest millions of pounds in its portfolio over the years to come.
