One worker was lucky to keep his hospitality job recently after it emerged he had accidently burned £1,000 of the pub takings in a hot oven.

According to a report in the Sun, Luke Woolston was asked by his boss Martin Talbot to put the cash in a safe place at the end of a shift, but Luke opted to hide it in a switched-on cooker.

"He's usually a sensible lad so I trusted him to cash up and conceal the takings away from prying eyes. I thought he was joking when he said he'd stuck the money in the oven," Mr Talbot told the newspaper.

Some of the charred notes may still be useable if their serial numbers are legible, while some of the cash will be recouped by an insurance claim.

Luke has been kept on in his position at The Jolly Farmers in Ormesby, Norfolk.

New pub jobs were recently created at the Burton Arms in Burton Fleming after the establishment reopened its restaurant after more than two years.

The Bridlington Free Press reports that over 20 diners were present for the first meals from the new menu.
