Drinkers and bar workers in Manchester have been provided with a timely boost after a pub in the city reopened, it has been reported.

Pub manager Kenny Ingham has thrown the doors open again at the White Lion, in Newton Heath, three months after the local closed down, reports the Manchester Evening News.

London Town Group, which owns the pub, has stepped in to save the pub as others around the UK continue to bear the brunt of the economic slowdown.

According to the news provider, the firm is revamping a number of pubs around the UK in order to draw in customers.

The group's ambitious programme, which involves 125 pubs and bars, could create up to 500 jobs around the country.

According to event organisers Oxford International, the growing status of Manchester as a conference centre could create new hospitality jobs in the city.
