International recognition for Norwich pub

A Norwich pub has been named as one of the best in the world by a leading international travel guide.

Lonely Planet says The Murderers in Timberhill – aka the Gardeners Arms - is a must-visit attraction, in what represents a boost for pub manager Phil Cutter and his staff.

The pub, which dates back as far as 1530, is named by the directory as being the best in the UK, narrowly eclipsing Gordon's Wine Bar in London.

Landlord Mr Cutter said the recognition was special given that inclusion in the list was by invitation only.

He added: "Bars, clubs and bars from all over the world are included, with just 16 from London, and no others in the Eastern region."

According to Lonely Planet, staff at the pub are "always friendly", as are the regulars "who prop up the bar during the day".
