Pubs and bars which embrace crowd-pleasing local ales are more likely to survive the recession, it has been suggested.
According to David Morton, pubs officer for the Redditch and Bromsgrove branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), it has been a very difficult time for pubs, with up to six closing every day.
However, he suggested that pub manager jobs and other hospitality work could be safeguarded if more landlords take steps to pull in the punters with their range of beer.
Speaking to the Bromsgrove Advertiser, he stated: "There is plenty of evidence pubs in this part of Worcestershire are bucking the national trend as research by the Redditch and Bromsgrove branch of Camra has shown a lot less are closing.
"Well run, community pubs that offer tasty, locally-brewed beers are providing something that cannot be replicated elsewhere."
Neil Williams, a spokesperson for the British Beer and Pub Association, recently claimed that pubs which have a food menu and therefore offer restaurant work are more likely to ride out the economic storm than those which do not.
