Pubs 'more resilient than other retailers'

Town centre pubs are proving more resilient than other businesses during the recession, it has been revealed.
A study by Local Data Company found that 7.7 per cent of such pubs have closed between January and September this year.
However, the average figure for closures at all retailers stood at ten per cent and for department stores it was 21.6 per cent.
Liz Peace, chief executive of the British Property Federation, believes that the figures show "Britons are still a fun-loving bunch", something that could be good news for those looking for pub jobs.
However, she also called on the government to provide additional support for all retailers to help them through this difficult time.
Earlier in October, the Coffer Peach business tracker revealed that Britain's leading pub and restaurant groups have been able to boost sales for six consecutive months when compared to 2008 levels.
