The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has named the four finalists in its National Pub of the Year competition.

Battling it out to be named the best watering hole in the UK will be the Royal Oak Inn in Wantage, Oxford, the Crown Hotel in Worthington, the Royal Oak on Friday Street in West Sussex and the Kelham Island Tavern in Sheffield.

People working in pub manager jobs at all four establishments will have their work cut out for them, with the pubs being assessed on the welcome they offer guests, their atmosphere, service, customer mix and quality of drinks.

"It's going to be very difficult to decide on an overall winner, as I know each finalist brings great pleasure to a lot of people, not least within their respective local communities," commented Julian Hough, Camra pubs director.

The overall winner will be announced in mid-February 2010.
Camra is currently calling on people to join its Save Our Pubs campaign which aims to halt the number of establishments closing their doors and safeguard pub jobs.
