New law could save pub jobs in Wales

Pub managers in Wales will be pleased to hear that a Welsh Assembly Government report has called for a new law to help save historic buildings in Wales such as The Vulcan pub building in Cardiff.
Campaigners for the Victorian premises have undergone a long battle to save it from demolition after Brains, which owns the pub, was given a compulsory purchase order so that it could be turned into a car park.
The efforts of campaigners included a 5,000-name petition to save the pub.
Customers were told in April last year that the pub would stay open for at least another three years after it was given a reprieve, according to WalesOnline.
The assembly suggested that new legislation or guidelines were created "to protect buildings which are important for social and cultural reasons".
Campaigners and Cadw, the official guardian of the built heritage of Wales, have fought since 2005 to save the pub and the new law could make their efforts worthwhile.
