Pub jobs in the Scottish Borders could be given a boost with the news that JD Wetherspoon plans to create 40 part and full-time jobs in a new outlet on which work is expected to begin this year.
It has been awarded planning permission to refurbish and redecorate the former Cross Keys Hotel, despite local councillors lodging a number of objections.
These included concern over the increased levels of traffic the project could bring, noise pollution for local residents and the potential for litter, reports the Southern.
Nevertheless, the development of what will become the third Wetherspoon's in the region looks set to go ahead.
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "We believe that our style of pub will be welcomed in the area and be an asset to the town and its residents and visitors."
JD Wetherspoon runs hundred of bars all over the UK and offers a variety of positions, including chef jobs as well as bar work and management positions.
