Indian restaurant expansion announced

A chain of new Indian eateries will roll out across the UK after investment group India Outsourcing Services struck a deal to purchase the Mela Group's three London restaurants and catering business.
It is hoped that the Mela, Chowki and 3 Monkeys restaurants will spearhead the newly named Indian Restaurants Group to brand and franchise Indian cuisine in a similar way to that of the national dishes of other countries.
The £3 million per year Indian food industry in the UK is without a major brand, and the group proposes to expand by opening new venues as well as buying and rebranding existing outlets.
Amit Pau, the chief executive of India Outsourcing, said he hopes that the new chain will bring a consistent level of quality and authenticity of Indian food to the British public.
"Given the large but fragmented Indian restaurant market in the UK we believe we are particularly well placed to replicate the success seen in pizza, pasta and tapas chains."
The new chain could have a positive effect on the job prospects of those interested in restaurant work or chef roles, with further opportunities set to be created as the firm looks to develop the Mela Roma and Mela Events contract catering business.
